"It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was 13, I remember it being quite a tricky time, I was quite small and quite young for my age, I spent a lot of time in my room, making my dolls look like the human league, reading, drawing and learning song lyrics from Look in. Drawing and making things have always been a calming escape for me, when I was 13 I attempted a pencil portrait of Paul Young, I remember it being really good apart from a wonky eye. I spent a lot of time with my sisters and a couple of friends from school. We spent a lot of time eyeing up blouson leather jackets in Birkenhead market, I wasn’t aloud one. I also wasn’t aloud a perm which is a lasting regret!. I think the challenges today’s 13 year olds have expanded massively but I hope that drawing and making things still provide an escape and a feeling of empowerment as you create
something unique and wonderful.“I love creating art because there are no
rules as to how crazy you can be. I love how personal it can feel to someone and how different it can be perceived by another." Anna

"When I create art there are no boundaries or limits to push down and I can be as free
as I want to create something. Art for me isn't necessarily always & good; or bad, it's
just my mind spilling onto a canvas.   Lots of little things make me feel joy like
observing friendships beginning between two strangers or seeing a baby giggle and the joy it brings that particular family, watching the sunset on a warm evening
and just all those little things that add up to make you smile.” Erin, 13
