• Emma Studd

Bristol based artist, Emma, attained a BA in Textile Design and then a PGCE in Art and Design and has been teaching Art and Textiles in schools & colleges for over 15 years. She recently completed her MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking at UWE and now runs screen printing courses in Bristol.

Through the process of screen print Emma creates mostly one-off works of art predominately on paper but also on wood. By using the screen as a drawing tool she explores the relationship between colour, shape and pattern. She loves to play with the transparency of colour and texture: exploring how they interact and overlay in predictable and unpredictable ways. She experiments with the tessellation of form and by layering shapes seeks to evoke a sense of illusion.

Finding inspiration from geometry, Op Art and contemporary abstract art Emma likes to create depth and movement in her work. Implementing her own systematic way of printmaking she adapts and responds to the work as it evolves on the page. Intuitively making decisions about the balance of tone and colour she allows the process to define the outcome.

Emma exhibits her work at The Other Art Fair and in other group shows. She has been selected for the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair for the last 5 years and in 2023 had a piece selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
